The Correct and Incorrect Method of Disinfecting Scissors

The Correct Method

  1. Ethanol
Ethanol is a great way to disinfect scissors as it will not damage the metal. However, lower percentage ethanol disinfectants may contain preservatives that, when not wiped down thoroughly, can cause the metal to rust. When disinfecting, moisten a cloth or a piece of soft material such as cotton with ethanol and generously wipe over the entire surface of the scissors. Wipe thoroughly and gently.

  2. Ultraviolet (UV) Rays
The effect of using UV light against COVID-19 is still unclear. However, UV rays are effective against influenza and rotavirus, which closely resembles COVID-19. Using UV rays on hairdressing scissors can be useful and may actually improve the metal's resistance to corrosion.

The Incorrect Method

  1. Sodium Hypochlorite (chlorine)
Please do not use sodium hypochlorite (chlorine) as a disinfectant as the sodium will corrode the metal and damage your scissors.

  2. Boiling Water or Steam
We do not recommend disinfecting with boiling water or steam. If the scissors are not disassembled and completely wiped dry, over time the residual moisture will cause areas like the screw head of the scissors to rust.

Warranty
